Fiqh Council of North America fatwa on religious and national loyalty. Here is a brief quote: "Islamic teachings uphold religious freedom and adherence to the same universal moral values which are accepted by the majority of people of all backgrounds and upon which the US Constitution was established and according to which the Bill of Rights was enunciated."
But why the need to declare this now? Isn't it a bit late and rather inconsequential? Is it the 10 years since 9/11 imperative or a response to anti-shari'a state legislature activities, the Ground Zero mosque affair, and the Peter king hearings? Oh, I guess I answered my own question, apparently there still is an audience for this message since there is so much public discourse about Islam as a threat to ideas of the nation as imagined community.
